Christ the King: Act of Dedication

It has been quite awhile since I have posted here. The compilation effort continues. I have completed work on the four major seasons of the Church year, and have moved to work related to monthly devotions.

In the meantime, I believe that the proper thing to do would be to focus on those things which are timely. Starting on the First Sunday of Advent, I will, every day, post the parts of the Immaculate Conception Novena which I have compiled. In the meantime, as the Feast of Christ the King is upon us, it seems best to turn to the Act of Dedication of the Human Race to Jesus Christ the King, as found in the Enchiridion on Indulgences. This prayer, often known by its Latin name, Iesu Dulcissime Redemptor, speaks well for itself, so I will simply post it:

Most sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, look down upon us humbly prostrate before you. We are yours, and yours we wish to be; but to be more surely united with you, behold each one of us freely consecrates himself today to your Most Sacred Heart. Many indeed have never known you; many, too, despising your precepts, have rejected you. Have mercy on them all, most merciful Jesus, and draw them to your Sacred Heart. Be King, O Lord, not only of the faithful who have never forsaken you, but also of the prodigal children who have abandoned you; grant that they may quickly return to their Father's house, lest they die of wretchedness and hunger. Be King of those who are deceived by erroneous opinions, or whom discord keeps aloof, and call them back to the harbor of truth and the unity of faith, so that soon there may be but one flock and one Shepherd. Grant, O Lord, to your Church assurance of freedom and immunity from harm; give tranquility of order to all nations; make the earth resound from pole to pole with one cry: Praise to the divine Heart that wrought our salvation; to it be glory and honor for ever. Amen.

A partial indulgence is granted to the faithful, who piously recite the above Act of Dedication of the Human Race to Jesus Christ King. A plenary indulgence is granted, if it is recite publicly on the feast of our Lord Jesus Christ King.

Remember that for a plenary indulgence, one must 1) make a sacramental confession; 2) receive Holy Communion; 3) pray for the intentions of the Holy Father (if you don't know them an Our Father, Hail Mary, and Apostles' Creed will suffice); 4) be free of any attachment to sin.

I received your request to follow you on Twitter. So now I'm following.

Your idea for a devotional prayer book is intriguing, and I wish you well. If you want serious input, please include an e-mail address at your blog. In the seven and a half years that "man with black hat" has been in publication, my inclusion of an e-mail address has not led to an onslaught of stalking or hate mail. It does lead to a lively exchange. That's what you're asking for, right?

I may have something to contribute to this endeavor, but I can tell you in advance that it will run more than 140 characters a piece.

    Stay in touch.

  2. Thank you for your suggestion about the email. I had thought that posting in comboxes would be sufficient, but now I see that it rather limits the amount of exchange that can occur. We will definitely keep in touch.

I will provide my email address shortly.

Also, I'm sorry that it took so long to respond. Holiday weekend and all, being away from much computing.
