On earth we, thy children, invoke thy fair name.

We pray for His vicar, our father, and Rome.

Ave, ave, ave, Maria! Ave, ave, Maria!

READINGS

Nov. 30 (Gen. 28: 10-17)

Lec. From the book of Genesis.

Jacob departed from Beer-sheba and proceeded toward Haran. When he came upon a certain shrine, as the sun had already set, he stopped there for the night. Taking one of the stones at the shrine, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep at that spot. Then he had a dream: a stairway rested on the ground, with its top reaching to the heavens; and God's messengers were going up and down on it. And there was the LORD standing beside him and saying: "I, the LORD, am the God of your forefather Abraham and the God of Isaac; the land on which you are lying I will give to you and your descendants. These shall be as plentiful as the dust of the earth, and through them you shall spread out east and west, north and south. In you and your descendants all the nations of the earth shall find blessing. Know that I am with you; I will protect you wherever you go, and bring you back to this land. I will never leave you until I have done what I promised you." When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he exclaimed, "Truly, the LORD is in this spot, although I did not know it!" In solemn wonder he cried out: "How awesome is this shrine! This is nothing else but an abode of God, and that is the gateway to heaven!"God almighty

V. God almighty,
as all nations have found blessing in Israel
by your providing a dwelling for your Son
in the womb of the Virgin,
deign to give us,
who were born or grafted into tree of Israel
the joy of celebrating
the conception of his first earthly dwelling
through the same Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.

Day 1: Immaculate Conception Novena

As promised, the Immaculate Conception Novena is here. I apologize for the delay. A five hour trip from Atlanta to Tallahassee took about eight hours (not to mention leaving a day late). Anyway, here it is:

HYMN

Immaculate Mary, thy praises we sing;
Who reignest in splendor with Jesus our King.
Ave, ave, ave, Maria! Ave, ave, Maria!

In heaven, the blessed thy glory proclaim;
On earth we, thy children, invoke thy fair name.
Ave, ave, ave, Maria! Ave, ave, Maria!

We pray for God's glory; may His kingdom come;
We pray for His vicar, our father, and Rome.
Ave, ave, ave, Maria! Ave, ave, Maria!

We pray for our Mother, the Church upon earth,
And bless, dearest Lady, the land of our birth.
Ave, ave, ave, Maria! Ave, ave, Maria!

READINGS

Nov. 29 (Gen. 3:6-15) Lec. From the book of Genesis. The woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasing to the eyes, and desirable for gaining wisdom. So she took some of its fruit and ate it; and she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized that they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves. When they heard the sound of the LORD God moving about in the garden at the breezy time of the day, the man and his wife hid themselves from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. The LORD God then called to the man and asked him, "Where are you?" He answered, "I heard you in the garden; but I was afraid, because I was naked, so I hid myself." Then he asked, "Who told you that you were naked? You have eaten, then, from the tree of which I had forbidden you to eat!" The man replied, "The woman whom you put here with me--she gave me fruit from the tree, so I ate it." The LORD God then asked the woman, "Why did you do such a thing?" The woman answered, "The serpent tricked me into it, so I ate it." Then the LORD God said to the serpent: "Because you have done this, you shall be banned from all the animals and from all the wild creatures; On your belly shall you crawl, and dirt shall you eat all the days of your life. I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; He will strike at your head, while you strike at his heel."

V. Lord God,
just as you did not abandon us
when our First Parents rejected you
but foreshadowed our redemption
brought by the New Adam, born of the New Eve,
who would strike down the serpent and the sting of death
grant, we beg, the perseverance
to give due honor
as we prepare for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception,
through the same Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.

Support Our Bishops!

My posts have generally dealt with the writing of the prayer book. However, I believe it is necessary to draw your attention to this article from Fr. Z. In the article, he draws attention to the fact that Bishop Tobin of Rhode Island has responsibly asked Rep. Kennedy to withold himself from Holy Communion over his support for abortion. Please vote in support of Bishop Tobin for doing his job as a pastor of souls. If you just want the link to the poll it is here. Just scroll down a little bit.

Christ the King: Act of Dedication

It has been quite awhile since I have posted here. The compilation effort continues. I have completed work on the four major seasons of the Church year, and have moved to work related to monthly devotions.

In the meantime, I believe that the proper thing to do would be to focus on those things which are timely. Starting on the First Sunday of Advent, I will, every day, post the parts of the Immaculate Conception Novena which I have compiled. In the meantime, as the Feast of Christ the King is upon us, it seems best to turn to the Act of Dedication of the Human Race to Jesus Christ the King, as found in the Enchiridion on Indulgences. This prayer, often known by its Latin name, Iesu Dulcissime Redemptor, speaks well for itself, so I will simply post it:

Most sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, look down upon us humbly prostrate before you. We are yours, and yours we wish to be; but to be more surely united with you, behold each one of us freely consecrates himself today to your Most Sacred Heart. Many indeed have never known you; many, too, despising your precepts, have rejected you. Have mercy on them all, most merciful Jesus, and draw them to your Sacred Heart. Be King, O Lord, not only of the faithful who have never forsaken you, but also of the prodigal children who have abandoned you; grant that they may quickly return to their Father's house, lest they die of wretchedness and hunger. Be King of those who are deceived by erroneous opinions, or whom discord keeps aloof, and call them back to the harbor of truth and the unity of faith, so that soon there may be but one flock and one Shepherd. Grant, O Lord, to your Church assurance of freedom and immunity from harm; give tranquility of order to all nations; make the earth resound from pole to pole with one cry: Praise to the divine Heart that wrought our salvation; to it be glory and honor for ever. Amen.

A partial indulgence is granted to the faithful, who piously recite the above Act of Dedication of the Human Race to Jesus Christ King. A plenary indulgence is granted, if it is recite publicly on the feast of our Lord Jesus Christ King.

Remember that for a plenary indulgence, one must 1) make a sacramental confession; 2) receive Holy Communion; 3) pray for the intentions of the Holy Father (if you don't know them an Our Father, Hail Mary, and Apostles' Creed will suffice); 4) be free of any attachment to sin.
